The Dutch Dance Festival 2019 opens with two inspiring productions that both zoom in on the positive, liberating and guiding power of im-agination and idealism in their own insistent way.
“Choreographer Bahoran creates a travel guide to the soul.” – de Volkskrant ★★★★
SHAILESH BAHORAN / ILLUSIONARY ROCKAZ COMPANY / REDO
Shailesh Bahoran won the Dutch Dance Festival Maastricht Prize in 2017 for his preparatory re-search for REDO, an extraordinary production about inexhaustible willpower and iron discipline which he developed with Redouan Ait Chitt and which opened last year’s festival. When the phenomenon of the breakdance world Redouan was born, his body had strange abnormalities which medical science couldn’t explain. He doesn’t believe in limitations, however. He be-lieved in himself and he became an internationally famous breakdanc-er and motivational speaker. The nomination for a Swan for Redouan (for Most Impressive Achievement in Dance2019) and the demand means that the extraordinary production will return to Maastricht for one more time.

IVGI & GREBEN / THE DREAMERS
In 2018 Ivgi & Greben made We Are In Troubleon the subject of migration and alienation. It will be followed up by De Voorlopers (‘The Forerunners’) which will premiere in the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam on 24th October. In this production, a number of individ-uals establish themselves on a distant planet. There is nothing. On what values and ideals is their community going to be based? The choreographic duo are presenting a brandnew piece from De Voorlopers, called The Dreamers, at the Dutch Dance Festival in which the positive, liberating and guiding power of ideals is central.
