The Holland Dance Festival developed a new concept for DanceAble called ‘Mixed Doubles Duet’. Dansgezelschap Maas, Theater Babel and SALLY Dance Company Maastricht were invited by the festival to create a duet for a ‘mixed abilities’ duo: an able-bodied dancer with a dancer without a disability. At the Dutch Dance Festival you will be able to find out more about the world of inclusive dance and dancers in the Artistic Lab in AINSI, where SALLY will be working on the choreography from September.
DanceAble bridges inclusive and professional dance.
Other artists, other bodies
DanceAble is an attempt by the Holland Dance Festival and the participating companies to bridge the divide between inclusive and professional dance. The ‘Mixed Doubles’ concept, now in its third year, will also be joining the project Europe Beyond Access for the first time. Under the motto ‘other artists, other bodies’, dancers and choreographers from various countries will work together led by two British experts in the area of inclusive dance, Adam Benjamin and Janice Parker. You will be able to see the dancers at work at the Dutch Dance Festival.
The Dutch companies SALLY, Maas and Theater Babel are participating in DanceAble. The three duets will be premiered at the Holland Dance Festival in February 2020 under the title DanceAble #3 EXTENDED. The programme will then tour all the European partners including Sweden, Greece and Italy.
