In the last episode of the series, Jan Kooijman talks to two acquaintances of the Dutch Dance Days, Redouan Ait Chitt (Redo) and Sedrig Verwoert.

Redo has already performed on the festival stage several times and was our online host every day during the last edition of the Dansdagen. He showed us all the festival activities in Op pad met Redo. The fact that he faces some physical challenges doesn't stop him from making a name for himself as a professional dancer and choreographer. In 2018 he was the first self-taught hip-hop dancer to acquire a Swan.

Last edition of the festival, Sedrig Verwoert was nominated for the Swan for the most impressive dance performance 2021 together with Christian Yav for They / Them. In this episode of Dance with me, he tells how he finds his way in the professional dance world as a half-blind, queer dancer and choreographer.

We asked them how they experienced their participation, what Dans met me actually means to them and how they look forward to the next edition of the Dutch Dance Festival.

How did you experience participating in NTR Dance with me?

Redo:

“Very nice program that takes a closer look at dance! It's also great that every dancer / choreographer was allowed to make / show a choreography especially for the program. ”

Sedrig:

“Yes, quite special. It is now exactly one year that I had to perform for the last time. So in terms of intensity and focus very interesting to get to "Performance" level. I also share a bit more about my blindness, which makes it extra personal. And that via a platform that brings '' dance '' to the television in your living room, makes it really special and intimate. Something we miss now in this period. ”

What does the title / statement Dance with me mean to you?

Redo:

“Inviting feeling of togetherness. Especially after this period you want nothing more than to be together and share the feeling of dance with other people. ”

Sedrig:

“For me the question 'Dance with me' sounds like an invitation:“ Hey, come and see ”. It sounds optimistic and you want to know more. And from the performer perspective I want you to look at me. Sharing '' your Dance '', including intimacy. Because together you are responsible for the piece. ”

How do you look forward to the next edition of the Dutch Dance Festival?

Redo:

“Really looking forward to a new edition of the Dutch Dance Days! The previous online edition was a great success and hopefully with a live edition next to it it will be a very nice festival where people can meet again. Of course also with a new "On Pad Met Redo" to portray all behind-the-scenes and the day-to-day program in a fun way! "

Sedrig:

“Honestly, I try very hard to stay in the moment for now. So an expectation that we can "be together again, and may again" is a wish! But I don't expect otherwise. And that we will certainly find a way to celebrate this. ”
