8 February 2023

As of today it is possible to nominate choreographers for the Innovation Prize Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht.

Sjoerd Derine

Last year, the Nederlandse Dansdagen combined the two festival prizes (Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht and Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Young Audience) into one incentive prize, the Innovation Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht. The prize highlights current developments and exceptional talent and focuses on all disciplines within the Dutch dance sector. The available amount of money is €25,000 and is made possible in part by the Municipality of Maastricht.

Which choreographer do you nominate?

The Dutch Dance Days calls on dance enthusiasts and dance professionals to nominate choreographers for the Innovation Prize Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht. Which emerging choreographer manages to surprise and touch you with his/her work? Who do you think deserves a push to create new work and premiere it during the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2024?

Important criteria are that the choreographers have already realized a number of eye-catching projects, but have not yet received any structural subsidy. Both choreographers who make independent productions and choreographers who create work for companies can be nominated. One condition is that they have been working in the Netherlands for some time. Choreographers who have been nominated in previous years can also compete for the prize again. Previous winners are excluded from the nominations.

A jury ultimately nominates three makers from the entries who will pitch their idea for a new performance. The choreographer with the best, most innovative idea takes home the prize and can start creating a new work. In the run-up to the premiere moment during the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2024, the winning maker will also be given a place at the schrit_tmacher and The Notorious IBE festivals.
