On the 30th of september were the VSCD Dance Awards, better known as the Swans, awarded during the Nederlandse Dansdagen Gala in Theater aan het Vrijthof. The opening night of the 25th edition of the Nederlandse Dansdagen was given an extra festive touch by the presentation of a Golden Swan. For the first time, Young Swans were also awarded to the most impressive youth dance production and youth dance performance. These new dance prizes have been established at the initiative of the entire youth dance field, in recognition of the quality and innovative capacity of youth dance.
MAASTRICHT, SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 – Tonight, the VSCD Dance Awards, better known as the Swans, were awarded during the Nederlandse Dansdagen Gala in Theater aan het Vrijthof. The opening night of the 25th edition of the Nederlandse Dansdagen was given an extra festive touch by the presentation of a Golden Swan. For the first time, Young Swans were also awarded to the most impressive youth dance production and youth dance performance. These new dance prizes have been established at the initiative of the entire youth dance field, in recognition of the quality and innovative capacity of youth dance.
These are the dance winners of the 25th anniversary edition of the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2022 in a row:
GOLDEN SWAN : Lloyd Marengo received the Gouden Swan in recognition of his great and unique contribution to dance in the Netherlands and his role as a pioneer for the hip-hop community.
SWANS: The Swan for Most Impressive Dance Production was awarded to 'Figures in Extinction [1.0]' by Crystal Pite and Simon McBurney, made for Nederlands Dans Theater 1. Dancer Young Gyu Choi of Dutch National Ballet was awarded the Swan for Most Impressive Dance Performance for his role in '7th Symphony' by Toer van Schayk.
INNOVATION PRIZE NEDERLANDSE DANSDAGEN MAASTRICHT: Also new was the Innovation Prize Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht, in which the winner can work out his or her idea for a new performance with a cash prize of €25,000. Simon Bus is the winner of the Innovation Award Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht. The amount of money has been made possible in part by the Municipality of Maastricht, for a new work to be made that will premiere during the Nederlandse Dansdagen 2023.
Association of Theater and Concertgebouw Directors (VSCD): VSCD is the main advocate for theaters and concert halls. Performing artists make a powerful contribution to the art climate and are the capital of theaters and concert halls. Their achievements deserve special attention and a growing audience.
