‘Bodies of influence: a history of change in twenty-five dances’ is an exhibition exploring dance as a barometer for social, cultural and political change. By retracing important moments in Dutch dance through the lens of social concerns, the exhibition reconsiders how dance, like other forms of art, functions as a reflection of society’s shifting values and norms.

Beginning after the second world war (when dance in the Netherlands experienced unprecedented growth) the exhibition highlights twenty-five significant works, artists and organizations as well as the social issues they propelled. Together these dances tell the story of an art form and of an evolving society; they inspire recognition, measure change and reaffirm dance as a powerful instrument of cultural activism in times of crisis.
