Hotbed for dance and dance talent

The Dutch Dance Festival makes use of the richness of its heritage in order to provide contemporary dance with a context and to help shape the dance of the future. Dutch dance is internationally famous for its innovative power, fantastic choreographers and dazzling dance climate. Maintaining the vitality of this climate is of crucial importance. The Dutch Dance Festival honours, encourages and promotes Dutch dance. Each year it presents interest- ing developments and offers a podium for premieres and innovative co-productions. The festival supports emerging talent with guidance and prizes, and makes use of new channels to connect makers with a new audience.

Bloedbanden?

This follow-up to the Dutch Dance Festival co-production Bloedbandeninvestigates the meaning of the blood band. We see various genera-tions of these conventional and unconventional families on the dance floor. Bloedbanden?demonstrates the role that dance and movement can have in the relationship between different family members and generations.

Joost Vrouenraets & Loran Delforge

The new collaboration between the choreographer Joost Vrouenraets and the composer and musical producer Before Tigers a.k.a. Loran Delforge resulted in the production M.A.D.| second song of the cuckoo, which will premiere at the Dutch Dance Festival.

Keren Levi

The Dutch Dance Festival presents the Dutch premiere of unmute by Keren Levi and Yannis Kyriakides. Levi and Kyriakides are entering onto terrain that has been little explored with this dance concert for four dancers and two musicians from Slagwerk Den Haag, terrain where digital technology and the dancers’ physical skills play upon each other.

the dansMuseum as a source of inspiration and innovation. At this year’s festival, the dansMuseum is a conceptual interpretation of a traditional museum exhibition.Extinctus/Extantem is an exhibition in the form of a publication; a port- able archive of articles, essays and interviews all about forgotten and lost movements in Dutch dance. In addition, the dansMuseum presents three special guest exhibitions that reflect the theme of the publication in three different ways.

Dunja Jocic

Attention: During the performance, Dunja Jocic uses a stroboscope. 

Dunja Jocic is one of the most exciting, new choreographers in the country. She won the Dutch Dance Festival Maastricht Prize in 2018 and her latest The Resident will be premiered at this year’s festival.

CLUB TWEAK

HOT LINE presents CLUB TWEAK ft. Dimitri

In the liberating surroundings of the night, new dance styles arise and extraordinary connections are made between dance and art forms such as fashion and visual and sound design. The Dutch Dance Festival will be placing this centre stage in a club concept in which local and international DJ’s of allure will collaborate seamlessly with dance performance and visual design. After the afterparty after Meesterwerken (Masterworks), the party continues: the ‘after’ afterparty, the second year of CLUB TWEAK.

'Research is what I'm doing, when I don't know what I'm doing'

155 (eenvijfvijf) won the Dutch Dance Festival Young Audiences Prize in 2018. The breakdance collective will be using the prize money to conduct research that can be followed 24/7 during the festival via a livestream.

DanceAble Open Studio

Holland Dance Festival / SALLY Dansgezelschap Maastricht

The Holland Dance Festival developed a new concept for DanceAble called ‘Mixed Doubles Duet’. Dansgezelschap Maas, Theater Babel and SALLY Dance Company Maastricht were invited by the festival to create a duet for a ‘mixed abilities’ duo: an able-bodied dancer with a dancer without a disability. At the Dutch Dance Festival you will be able to find out more about the world of inclusive dance and dancers in the Artistic Lab in AINSI, where SALLY will be working on the choreography from September.

STICHTING 10 SECOND MOVE I.S.M. FONTYS ACADEMIE VOOR DANSEDUCATIE

How can you say something in 10 seconds when someone else would need an hour? The answer is the 10 second dance, an interdisciplinary app in which dance, music and film reinforce and support each other in combination with technology. People worldwide or in their own community can engage in a dialogue with each other and start creating choreography with their telephone.

Dansacademies / NDD

The innovative ideas and, above all, irrepressible energy of new Dutch dance talent that you are guaran-teed to see in the major international dance venues one day. The Dutch Dance Festival is presenting this talent in collaboration with four dance schools in one varied programme. The works are performed and some-times created by today’s new talent, the important choreographers and dancers of tomorrow.

Het Nederlandse Dansdagen Gala

At the Dutch Dance Festival Gala, the most important dance prizes in our country are awarded. The Dutch Dance Festival Maastricht Prize for the most promising choreographer, The Dutch Dance Festival Young Audiences Prize for the most promising makers of dance for young people and the prestigious Swans, the Oscars of Dutch dance. You too can be witness to this celebratory evening, in which dancers, choreographers and audience celebrate the achievements of Dutch dance together. It will be taking place this year in a varied programme with contributions from Nicole Beutler Projects, 155 (eenvijfvijf), Amos Ben-Tal, Dunja Jocic and other, new talent.

Black Memories – the cast of AYA, Tafel van Vijf and BackBone delve into the Netherlands’ colonial history with an open mind. The starting point of this powerful dance and musical production, that has been nominated for the ‘ Swan for the most impressive dance production 2019’, was the experience of the dancers, actors and musicians themselves. What is like to live in the Netherlands if you have a mixed heritage?
